COGNITIVE TRAINING AND REMEDIATION

“Brain power improves by brain use, just as our bodily strength grows with exercise.”~ A.N Wilson

Dr. Eve Boyd and Dr. Elena Dobbs are NCR (Neuro-cognitive rehabilitation) providers. They work with both children and adults who are experiencing memory/attention problems assisting them with useful compensatory and strengthening strategies

Your brain is the most important part of you. It controls everything you do, from breathing, walking, talking, thinking and learning, to making friends, storing memories, and making you the unique person you are today. Unfortunately, we can often forget about our brains, because unlike our bodies or our (or our children’s) bad habits/behaviors, we cannot see our brains. However, success in almost anything you do starts with your brain! At Dobbs Psychology, we focus on how having a healthy functioning brain can help you feel happier, perform better, make better decisions, and achieve your goals.

It has only been in the past few decades that scientists have realized that we are not stuck with the brains we are born with, and have discovered the concept of neuroplasticity. Not only can we build new neural connections, but evidence has shown that adults of all ages can grow new neural cells (i.e. grey matter) and pathways (i.e. white matter) through various practices including learning new skills, exercise, meditation, and brain stimulation. In addition, there is growing scientific evidence about the impact of nutrition and environmental factors on your brain health. The modern world is full of stressors that we cannot run away from, so many children and adults live with a chronically overwhelmed brain and nervous system that they cannot regulate, which can manifest as mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression and ADHD.

HYPNOTHERAPY

Frequently Asked Questions

It is the application of hypnosis for positive change, healing and empowerment.

It works by using skilled relaxation techniques to help you reach a state where the conscious part of your mind is relaxed and your subconscious part which is the part driving our behavior is  more open to suggestions for self-improvement or behavior modification.

We will discuss your goals and intentions for this session. I will gather personal information such as sleeping patterns, lifestyle information, any treatments involving other practitioners and I will explain how the hypnotherapy process will work.

In a hypnotherapy session, you are in control the whole time. You will hear the suggestions made to you, and you will be able to remember them after the session. Many claim to feel calm and in a relaxed state.

Yes. Since 1958, The American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association have approved hypnotherapy as an effective modality and a valid form of treatment.

No. Hypnosis is very safe and is in fact, a state of hyper-awareness. Any time the person can naturally be able to come out of the Hypnotic state. You cannot be hypnotized against your will nor made to do or say anything which violates personal standards of behavior or integrity.

No. You will be able to speak, move at any time you wish to do so. But in my experience people tap into a deep level of calm and relaxation, they stay there and enjoy it!
Yes if they choose so. Every person naturally enters a state of hypnosis at least twice everyday: just before falling asleep at night, and upon waking every morning, before getting out of bed. Most people easily enter ‘Environmental Hypnosis’ while at the movies, watching TV, driving on the highway, or while reading a good book. With my help and guidance you will be able to get into hypnosis and experience its healing effects.
Results vary depending on the individual, however, benefit is felt from the first session. In fact, many issues are significantly improved after just a few sessions.

NO, Hypnosis is not covered by any insurance.
